Sadhana: Developing a Personal Practice
Fri-Sun, Mar 19-21, 2010
Brenna Geehan, ERYT began her journey with yoga, tantra, and ayurveda in 1998. In 2002, she met her mentor, Yogarupa Rod Stryker and has completed his ParaYoga® Level 3 Master Certification. She continues to teach seminars all around the Midwest and also assists Yogarupa Rod Stryker in his ParaYoga® Teacher Trainings. Over the past 10 years she has had the great fortune of learning from other teachers as well including David Life, Shiva Rea, Doug Keller, Beryl Bender Birch, Tias Little, Yogiraj Alan Finger, Ana Forrest, Tim Miller, Gary Kraftsow, Andrey Lappa, Gabriel Halpern, and Judith Lasater.
She believes that we all have the right and capacity to realize a life brimming with joy, meaning and purpose. In her classes, she offers an asana practice that honors a number of styles including vinyasa flow, tantra, and a soft and fluid approach that encourages an “inner listening.”
Are you unsure of how to begin your yoga practice at home? Maybe you know some poses you would like to practice that day but are unable to create a continuous flow between poses? You feel ready to dive deeper into the philosophy that supports your physical yogic practices but don’t know where to begin?
In this Workshop, you will learn how to cultivate a personal practice. You will discover ways to practice asana, pranayama, meditation, and svadyaya (self-study) by yourself.
We will discuss sequencing of asanas, what pranayama practices are appropriate for your skill level and a way into a meditation practice. We will also discuss some of the excellent yoga books that will be helpful for your personal growth.
CLASS 1: Friday Evening 6:00 – 8:30 pm
Part 1: The Art of Asana Sequencing In this class we will learn how to map out an asana practice using the the philosophy of Vinyasa Krama. The concept of vinyasa krama tells us that it is not enough to simply take a step; that step needs to take us in the right direction and be made in the right way. We will discuss the energetics of asana and practice a well-balanced sequence. Each student will receive a template of this sequence to take home and modify to meet ones needs.
Part 2: Meeting our Personal Needs Every day we have different needs that can be addressed in our yoga practice. With our understanding of sequencing and the energetics of asana, we will learn how to modify our daily practice to encourage balance within. 3 hours
