I originally came to yoga in hopes of overcoming a lifetime of depression. Over the last 22 years, I have explored the use of yoga in working with what some consider an intolerable condition. I would like to share my journey with you. This two-hour workshop is open to anyone, especially those who have experienced depression or who have friends or family who face this problem in their lives.
The first part of the workshop will be a discussion of depression. We will look at questions like these: What is depression? Is depressions a disease? How has depression affected you? When are pharmaceuticals necessary? Do we want to eradicate melancholia completely and replace it with permanent happiness? Can some of us cultivate enough strength and flexibility to stay in the saddle and ride the wild horse of depression? Please come with any questions you have. The second part of the workshop will be spent doing meditation, pranayama (conscience breathing techniques) and asana (the postures of yoga).
Required reading: Against Happiness by Eric G. Wilson
$35 for workshop (If you have financial limitations that would prevent you from paying this amount, please contact Sarla directly at 901-270-5373)
