Sarla Nichols, Director of Midtown Yoga offers The Art of Teaching Vinyasa Yoga for students who want to deepen their practice, teachers who want to enhance their skills and students who are committed to becoming yoga teachers.

Schedule
The Art of Teaching Vinyasa Yoga at Midtown Yoga begins February 2008. Attendance at all sessions is mandatory for those students seeking certification. In addition, this is available to yoga teachers and serious yoga students who wish to deepen their understanding of yoga.

February 8th – 10th, 2008
Developing and Deepening Your Personal Practice
Exploring the importance of personal practice as the foundation and creative source for teaching as well as understanding proper sequencing in vinyasa yoga.

February 29th – March 2nd, 2008
The Foundations of Teaching Vinyasa Yoga
Learn how to teach stepbacks, lunges, Surya Namaskar A, and Surya Namaskar B. This session will focus on the use of effective language and look closely at how to teach actual poses which make up Surya Namaskar A and B. We will also cover the philosophical aspects of teaching. A five hour anatomy and physiology workshop is scheduled.

April 4th – April 6th, 2007
Teaching Standing Poses
Explore all the aspects of teaching the various standing poses starting with the foundation and moving to a deeper understanding of the articulation of the poses both in and out of the vinyasa flow. A five hour anatomy and physiology workshop is included.

May 2nd – 4th, 2008
Seated Poses, Forward Bends and Twists
Learn how to teach a variety of seated poses, forward bends and twists looking at their foundations, seeing and understanding bodies and the principles of adjusting these poses as well as their placement in the vinyasa flow.

June 6th – 8th, 2008
Inversions, Chanting, Mudras, Pranayama and Meditation, and their effect of human physiology. A five hour anatomy and physiology workshop is included.

July 11th – 13th, 2008
The Deeper Postures
Explore back bends breaking them down from the whole to the parts to more effectively understand these asanas. Discuss in detail the yoga sutras. Includes a five hour anatomy and physiology workshop.

August 8th – 10th, 2008
Practice Teaching and The Bhagavad Gita
Learn how to enhance your teaching skills including your conscience use of language, themes, sequencing, and adjustments. Includes an exploration of the archetypes found in the Bhagavad Gita.

September 6th – 8th, 2008
This final weekend will include specific instruction on the teaching principles of Kids yoga, Prenatal yoga and yoga for the larger body. Student will also take their written exams. We will also continue our exploration of teaching skills to prepare everyone to teach their certification class. And Kathy Fish will teach restorative yoga.

Certification
Once the classroom work is finished each student will teach a one hour All levels Vinyasa Yoga Class to be completed before October 3rd. Graduation will take place on Sunday, October 5th. At this time each student will receive a certificate which can then be duplicated and sent to Yoga Alliance for full certification. (There is a fee of $40 paid to YA this time)

Hours Outside the Weekend
Classroom Requirements 1. Students will attend three asana classes each week at Midtown Yoga for the duration of the training. (there is no additional charge) 2. Students will observe a beginner as well as an all level class. The specific times will be assigned 3. Students will form small groups to practice teaching and to study 4. Students are required to assist in three beginner classes and one all levels class.
