Massage
Catherine is an artist, wife, yogi, fly-fisherman, Step-Mother of 2, and a Massage Therapist. She has practiced yoga for 5 years. “Practicing yoga brings me into balance. The physical and the emotional.”
Catherine has been a Licensed Massage Therapist for 6 years and has practiced both in Oxford, Mississippi and Memphis, Tennessee. She specializes in Pain-Management Therapies, including Neuromuscular Therapy. Belief in allowing the body to change at its own pace – with guidance, compassion and acceptance – directs her theory of Massage Therapy. “I believe yoga and massage go hand in hand. Yoga allows you to care for the body on multiple levels, and Massage Therapy is just one of those levels. Helping the body through difficult poses, showing compassion and love: this is yoga at its best. Helping your body through pain or discomfort with Massage Therapy: this is serving your body at its best. To practice yoga is to care for your body and yourself. To be treated with Massage Therapy is to care for your body and yourself. Serve the body, so that the body may serve you.”
Catherine sees clients by appointment on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and occasional weekends. Please contact her directly for more information and appointment availability. Catherinedahlman@mac.com
Reflections from Massage Therapy clients at Midtown Yoga
“When I visited Catherine for the first time, I was suffering from immobilizing pain in my sacro-iliac joint that kept me from attending dance class and from full range of motion in yoga. Nothing I did up till then had helped, even remotely. But after the massage, I knew something had been rearranged. Two days later, the pain was gone, and it hasn’t come back in the several months since. Catherine essentially sent my body a message that it was safe to simply let go, and helped me begin the process of my own healing with a confidant and caring hand.” – Sarah Ledbetter, Teacher, Midtown Yoga
“Over the course of more than a year my shoulder had become very sore and ached almost constantly. Yoga helped keep it from getting any worse, but I could feel the discomfort in certain poses. It reached the point where I could hardly lift anything with that arm and the entire arm ached. A friend recommended that I consider a deep tissue massage with Catherine at Midtown Yoga. After several treatments and exercises at home, my arm felt alive and healthy for the first time in well over a year. I was thrilled and frankly surprised at how quickly my body responded to the treatment.” – Sherry Emerson, Student, Midtown Yoga
Deep Tissue and Neuromuscular Therapy:
This form of massage therapy mainly serves as pain management. If you experience pain, significant or constant discomfort, this form of treatment is best for you. This theory focuses on re-setting the nerves that supply a weak, imbalanced, or overly-tight muscle, or muscular region. It is a slow, and sedative theory which helps to eventually change your problem habits, not just treat while you’re on the table. While this therapy works the deeper layers of soft-tissue, it is not painful or something from which you have to recover. We recommend this treatment serve the areas that bother you, and some surrounding tissue. Please note – this theory cannot be used to treat the entire body in one treatment.
$60 for 1/2 hour, $95 for 1 hour, $150 for 1 1/2 hours.
Swedish Massage Therapy:
This theory is your most standard and widely practiced form of massage. It is a light and repetitive touch that detoxifies the body, invigorates digestive processes, calms the breath, decreases swelling, improves circulation and eventually can lower blood pressure. This is the most popular form of massage therapy for improving circulation and promoting relaxation.
Half-Body 1/2 hour: $40. Full-Body 1 hour: $70.
